Downtown Parkscapes
Individual Project
Spring 2021
The project site is located Downtown Fargo, ND between the Civic Center and Library. Extensive research was done prier to designing. The class looked at case studies to determine the best qualities for a city park. The Park on 4th includes primary colored blocks, made from a hard plastic and a large rubber climbing mound. The square blocks may be rotated around and the rectangle blocks create hiding spaces.
The materials selected in the park allows the space to be used all year round. Any age is welcome to climb on the blocks and walk up the mounds. The shapes of the park play with the balance between curved and straight. I made sure plenty of light is included on the perimeter along the sidewalks. Custom benches line up perfectly with the shapes of the park.
AutoCAD was the first step, getting the layout down. SketchUp was the primary program used to create the renderings. Enscape was used to add details for the final perspectives.
